Sedation Module - Important Notice
Stanford Hospital and Clinics and Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital require that all medical staff responsible for moderate sedation have specific privileges for this procedure. Privileges for moderate sedation can be obtained by passing the Moderate Sedation Exam that’s available online. If you feel you need a refresher course before you take the exam, you can find the Sedation Study Module on the previous page.
Which exam?
SHC and LPCH have separate exams. You do not need to take both exams. Please read below to figure out which exam you will need to take.
- Physicians who wish to have sedation privileges at LPCH or at both LPCH and SHC must pass the LPCH exam. A passing score on this test will be recognized at both hospitals and sedation privileges will be granted at both hospitals.*
- Physicians who wish to have sedation privileges only at SHC can take the SHC exam.*
- Both exams cover sedation questions for pediatric and adult patients since SHC does care for pediatric patients, but the LPCH exam is more pediatric-focused.
- *Sedation privileges at either SHC or LPCH are contingent upon Medical Staff Membership. You must be on the SHC medical staff to have sedation privileges at SHC and you must be on the LPCH Medical Staff to have sedation privileges at LPCH.
If you have any questions, please contact your Credentialing Coordinator. Otherwise, please go back to the main Training Modules page.
